Bio

Hailed as a “charismatic pianist” with a “firm, rounded keyboard tone,” Steinway Artist Evelyn Ulex has thrilled audiences in the United States, Europe, and Latin America with her inspiring solo performances. A founding member of the Transatlantic Ensemble, she is also known for her collaborative, pancultural programs that combine visual art and music. Her career has taken her to concert halls and festivals as far afield as Berlin, England, Spain, and Costa Rica. A much-admired performer in New York City, Ms. Ulex has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, Le Poisson Rouge, and many other venerable venues.

Born, raised, and educated in Berlin, Ms. Ulex studied at the prestigious Special School for Music for gifted children before continuing her training at the Hanns Eisler University and the University of the Arts, from which she holds masters degrees in performance and pedagogy.

With the TransAtlantic Ensemble and American clarinetist Mariam Adam, Ms. Ulex has focused on classical crossover jazz works by distinguished composers from North, South, and Latin America. The Ensemble’s recording “Havana Moon” received rave reviews and has been praised for its freshness, innovation, and virtuosity.

As an educator, Ms. Ulex has been invited to present masterclasses and recitals at universities and festivals throughout the United States. She served as President of the Associated Music Teacher’s League from 2019-2023 and maintains an active private studio. Her professional recordings can be heard on E1 Entertainment (Koch Classics), Steinway/Arkive Records, and Tango Malambo, and her videos include postings on YouTube.
