Celebrating 200 Years Robert Schumann (1810-2010) with Evelyn Ulex

She offered here beautifully clean piano lines and a firm, rounded keyboard tone in all registers. No mechanical player, her phrasing was appealingly elastic...

TransAtlantic Ensemble with guests

It is a rarity in music today to find an ensemble whose commitment to varied styles suits their abilities. The catch phrases in the Arts are "Diversity" and "Crossover" and many a chamber group wave that flag of repertoire. In the TransAtlantic Ensemble I have heard that well balanced blend of "Mozartian" control, "Brahmsian" passion, "Webernesque" precision. The bonus is ther inherit soul and rhythmic drive that allows them to tackle music from say, south of the American Border or the Middle East with authentic inflection.

Color is sound, sound is color. Inspired by the music performed by pianist Evelyn Ulex, Ade Frey created her paintings. These paintings will be projected on a screen during the concert and the originals are on display possible as an exhibition.

The main part of the performance will be Mussorgsky s Pictures at an exhibition , composed 1874, inspired by the paintings of his friend Victor Hartmann. While listening to Evelyn Ulex highly expressive interpretations, Ade Frey makes associations to the musical structure, rhythmical movements, and sound; modifying and expressing the musical color she hears.

"200 years classical Brazilian song" with Katia Guedes, Soprano

"One enjoys completely the young, improbably pure but also velvet, easy modulationable voice of Katia Guedes, whom a minnesinger would certainly have called a feast for the eyes. Evelyn Ulex sets highlights in the program with her brilliant solo pieces of Brazilian composers... While listening the show blossomed into a most interesting and fascinating event."

Märkische Allgemeine, Potsdam

"Evelyn and Katia are both accomplished artists with sure technique, solid musicianship and stylish presence. Their elegant interpretations contained a quiet passion, and revealed the haunting, lyric qualities of this musical genre."

Willa J. Conrad,The Star Ledger, NJ

If you're not inspired by Evelyn Ulex's piano playing, you are most likely devoid of any emotional bone in your body. You don't have to be a musician to agree that Ulex's playing far surpasses the dots and the lines on the page; her music is a means of communication that supersedes the limits of a language of words.
Ulex played Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major, known among pianists to be no easy technical feat. The listener lost all awareness of "the notes," except to notice how she gave deliberate attention to each one. But although each note, however fleeting, received special consideration, her playing did not seem labored in the least. In fact, her harp-like arpeggios sweeping across the keyboard drew in the audience from the start. Her charisma simply was unstoppable and her whole body seemed to move with the emotional color of each phrase. Her self-assurance and poise never felt imposing, as sometimes is the case of virtuosi. Her ability to transition from one mood to another was particularly striking. Even within the length of a cadenza, she was able to create a variety of different colors.
By Alicia Sanderman, Classical New Jersey Society Journal

...she gave a good performance of music from the heart of the Germanic repertoire (Schumann), as well as a rousing version of Mussorgsky s Pictures at an Exhibition.
by Greg Stepanich, Palm Beach Post.com

Poised, professional and pretty , Evelyn Ulex played out her heart and soul, so casually and graciously
MiltEnstine , Southampton Press, NY

"She has an excellent technique, displaying a vital temperament. What I found to be particularly impressive was her ability to absorb and execute my ideas so fluently and so quickly. Her interpretations are very personal, and highly thoughtful."
Prof. Michael Voskressensky, Tchaikowsky Conservatory Moscow

"...if you ever have the chance to hear her in concert, do not miss it. She may be the reason that the piano was invented."
Wendy Myhre-Levy, "On the Skyline"; Rockville Center, NY
